Implicit bias is when people's attitudes or prejudices affect how they think, act, and make choices without them realizing it. These biases happen automatically and often don't match what people say they believe. Implicit biases can influence everyday decisions, like who gets hired or how people interact. Tools like the Implicit Association Test (IAT) are used to reveal preferences that people might not be aware of.
Intersectionality explores how different aspects of identity, such as race, class, and disability, combine to shape an individual’s experiences. For example, a person with a disability may face challenges compounded by their socioeconomic background. Understanding intersectionality is important for appreciating diverse experiences and recognizing how multiple identity factors influence opportunities and barriers.
Taking an implicit bias test shows how our perceptions may be subconsciously biased. Although I may not consciously exhibit these biases, the purpose of the assessment is to reveal hidden preferences.
